"God wants to speak to us and most importantly, He wants us to hear Him."

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”
- John 10:27 -
The word ‘hear’ is a verb and it means to perceive by the ear, listen (to), obey, or follow. Many times, the question is asked, “How do I hear God?” It is not uncommon for persons to ask this question seeking to know if God is there and if He is speaking. The answer to this is found in the verse above. When God speaks in this verse we see where it says, “My sheep hear my voice”; it would then mean that God does actually speak to us because for us to hear Him, He would first have to speak. It means that He has initiated the conversation.
If we look a bit closer, we see the words, “My sheep”. This is where we see God’s ownership of us. He knows us and wants us for Himself. We see a characteristic of our Lord being displayed here: jealousy (righteous or sanctified jealousy, not sinful jealousy). He is a jealous God.
When God speaks of ‘hear’, does it mean that we just passively hear, where it goes through one ear and comes out the other? No, my friends! It means that we are actively listening to His voice. When we hear, it not only alerts us that the Master is speaking, meaning that we should pay attention; it also changes our focus as we begin to obey what the Master says. Therefore, we can say that hearing in this verse includes being attentive and obedient to His voice.
God wants to speak to us and most importantly, He wants us to hear Him. Just like He healed the deaf man in Mark 7:31-37, He will heal us. We just have to go to Him in prayer.
There are many beautiful things that we should take away from this. Firstly, God speaks to us. Secondly, God calls us His own. Thirdly, God knows us. And, finally, God wants us to hear Him! God wants to speak to us; will we hear the call?
